Driver Seriously Injured in West Penn Township Crash after Falling Asleep While Behind the Wheel

West Penn Township, Pennsylvania (July 28, 2017) – A driver was seriously injured Thursday afternoon after he fell asleep while driving and crashed into a trailer in West Penn Town, according to a police report.

The accident took place just after 4 p.m. Thursday, July 27, on Route 895.

As per the report, the driver told police he was traveling westbound on Route 895 when he fell asleep, and his vehicle drifted into the eastbound lane where it struck a trailer being pulled by a pickup truck.

The man’s vehicle continued on the highway until it ended up in the westbound lane where it came to a stop.

The driver of the pick-up truck and a passenger were not injured.  It was reported that he had just bought the trailer in Georgia on Monday.

Control of the highway was maintained by West Penn Township Fire and Police by closing down the area roads.

The incident remained under investigation by West Penn Township Police.
