88-Year-old Richard Deppen Killed in Two-Car Accident in Shamokin Dam

Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania (August 1, 2017) – A man aged 88 from Shamokin Dam was killed in Snyder County on Friday afternoon, according to police.

The fatal incident took place at around 3:36 p.m. July 28, on Route 11/15 in the area of the Shamokin Dam Water Tower.

A man identified as Richard Deppen was operating a Kia SUV in the southbound lane of Route 11/15 when he hit a concrete barrier.

Deppen’s car drifted from passing lane to the driving lane and hit the rear passenger side quarter panel of a Nissan Xterra being driven by Francis Pensiero, 56, of Steelton.

The Kia traveled off of the roadway towards the off-ramp from the Veterans Memorial Bridge that merges onto SR 11/15 near Bob Evans Restaurant.

Shamokin Dam police and fire rescue personnel arrived on the crash site and treated Deppen. The victim was then taken to Sunbury Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Pensiero was treated for minor injuries and released from Sunbury Hospital.

Police are still investigating the incident to determine cause and liability.
