Two Vehicles Crash on Maplewood Drive Westbound Lanes of Route 422
Stephen Dunning and Timothy Dunning Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash in Berks County
Amity Township, Pennsylvania (August 5, 2017) – Two people were injured in an accident involving an SUV that went airborne and hit a pickup truck in Berks County on Tuesday, according to officials.
The incident was reported at about 7:30 p.m. August 1, on Maplewood Drive in the westbound lanes of Benjamin Franklin Highway also known as Route 422.
An SUV driver identified as Stephen Dunning, 67, of Boyertown was driving his vehicle west on Route 422 when he started driving erratically, according to officials.
A witness said that the SUV was veering on the road from Montgomery County when it hit road signs in West Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, and Douglass Township in Berks County.
The vehicle left the road and traveled through a grassy culvert and went airborne. It then landed on its wheels and hit a pickup truck that was stopped at a red light.
Timothy Dunning, 61, of Boyertown, was a passenger in the SUV. He hit his head on the windshield. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Both Stephen and Timothy Dunning were hospitalized at Reading Hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.
Christopher Hurter, 43, of Boyertown was not hurt.
Maplewood Drive remained Closed for about an hour.
