Frankford, Philly: Boy Struck by Freight Train on Castor Avenue in Frankford, Loses Leg

Boy Hospitalized in Frankford Train Crash on Castor Avenue

Frankford, Philadelphia (July 19, 2017) – A 14-year-old boy lost his leg in a train crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon in Frankford, according to a local news source article.

At around 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, a boy was struck by a slow-moving southbound CSX train near the 3600 block of Castor Avenue, authorities said.

The train hit the boy and continued traveling south, likely unaware of the accident. It was not clear why the boy, who was with at least one friend, was in the track area.

An engineer in another train saw the boy hopping away from the tracks on his remaining leg.

Paramedics responded to the crash scene and found the boy conscious. He was transported to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children where he was reported to be in critical condition. The boy’s severed leg was also taken to the hospital by the paramedics.

SEPTA’s regional Trenton Line was suspended as police officers investigated the incident.
