John D. Snyder, 65, Injured In 2-Car Crash on I-80 in Mercer

Mercer, PA (August 9, 2017) – A man suffered serious injuries after he was involved in a car crash on I-80 at the 27.2-mile marker on Thursday afternoon.

Officials say the crash occurred at about 3:59 p.m. August 3, 2017.

John D. Snyder, 65, of Parker, and 36-year-old Michael G. Silvis of oil City were involved in the collision.

According to Mercer-based State Police, Snyder was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on the I-80 at approximately 70 mph when he rear ended a 2014 Kenworth tractor trailer which was coming to a stop due to a backlog of vehicles caused by a crash that had occurred earlier near the 32-mile marker.

The tractor trailer was being driven by Silvis.

It is reported that Snyder failed to notice that the tractor trailer was coming to a stop ahead of him and ended up crashing into it.

Emergency crew responding to the incident found Snyder, who had sustained serious injuries,  entrapped inside the pickup and had to be carefully extricated from the wreckage.

Snyder was then flown to St. Elizabeth ‘s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. His condition is unknown at the moment.

Silvis who had been wearing a seatbelt was not injured.

The two vehicles were later towed away from the scene.
