Man Struck and Killed by Train in Pittsburgh near South 12th Street and Fieger Way, Allegheny

Pittsburgh, PA (August 12, 2017) – A CSX train struck and injured a man on Friday morning in Pittsburgh South Side.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on August 11 near South 12th Street and Fieger Way.

Reports from Pittsburgh Public Safety indicate that the 24-year-old unidentified man had been lying on the railroad tracks when he was struck by the freight train. According to the spokeswoman, the man was wearing dark clothing.

The train was stopped after the incident, and the man was taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh where his condition was declared critical.

The train was transporting new cars, asphalt, steel sheets and cement from Indiana to Cumberland, Md. It had three locomotives and 148 railcars.

Officials from CSX and Allegheny County are still investigating the incident.
