1 to 3 Inches of Snow in Lancaster Could Spell Out Accidents

Over the past two days in Lancaster County, snow relentlessly fell nonstop, with countywide reports showing about 1 to 3 inches of snow in most areas. Because of the snowfall, many people called off from work and school districts called off throughout the whole county. A winter weather advisory was placed in effect until 1:00 PM this afternoon.

The snow created bad conditions on the roadways, leading to a couple accident events. In fact, throughout the past two days, there have been approximately 18 accidents reported in Lancaster County alone, with a few accidents south of the city as well. Many of these accidents were reported as occurring due to vehicles not slowing down on slick roads, leading to a series of crashes. Five vehicles had to be removed from one stretch of roadway due to the nine crashes that took place. Many of these accidents were also caused by untreated roads, such as one accident involving a school bus, where 20 students were luckily able to walk away unscathed.

Snow Driving Tips

Driving in the snow is always a dangerous situation, as you never know if and when you could lose control of your vehicle in unsatisfactory conditions. • Never drive without a seatbelt in winter weather.
• Apply the gas as slowly as possible to regain traction and avoid skids.
• Don’t power up on hills, as it will get your wheels spinning.
• Try to stay home instead of going out, as much as possible when there are adverse road conditions
